Week in Review 12/17 - 12/21

Here's a look into some of the other activities from the last week before holiday break.

We decorated gingerbread men to enhance our descriptive writing skills.

In our writing we talked about characteristics of the snowman such as, "The gingerbread man had three rainbow buttons."

We had our holiday concert on Wednesday night.

We decorated snowflakes for the children of Sandy Hook elementary.

We did a fun skittles math activity to enhance our understanding of more and less.

On Friday we had our much anticipated Polar Express party. We were all very excited to wear our pjs and get our train ticket punched.

At the end of the story we all got our very own jingle bell like in the story.

Then Ms. Pitre and Ms. Moyer gave each child a book as a holiday present.

We passed out some of our lovely cinnamon ornaments to various teachers and other adults in the building. Above Tytianna gives one to Ms. Kita and below ZyQuan shares one with our executive director Mr. Pinder.

Finally we all settled in to watch the movie. It was a very fun week in Kindergarten.

A Special Surprise from Santa

When we got to school today. Jolly the elf was gone but Santa has left us presents.

Santa was very happy with how we tried to work hard at school even if we sometimes make mistakes.

He gave us each a personalized copy of his favorite Christmas story, Twas the Night Before Christmas.

Everyone was very excited and couldn't wait to read the story.

We read it aloud together and we hope that you will enjoy this book with your child this Christmas and at Christmases to come.

Week of 12/10 - 12/14

After the arrival of an elf from the North Pole we were very excited to find out more about him. Each day we wrote him letters and each morning there was a letter waiting for us.

ZyQuan hard at work on his letter and Jhanii displaying her finished letter.

Here are some of our letters.

We had a great time at Playworks. We got to play outside this week.

In this game of "Dragon Tag," when you tag someone they become part of your dragon tail. Here we see Se'Jeida has caught Quion, Tanea, and Jhanii.

We've also been doing some crafting. Here Destony, Angel, and Gizabella make starfish ornaments for our Christmas tree. We decided to decorate the tree to match our science unit of ocean animals.

We also worked on concepts of size and on number bonds by creating a snowman project that will be featured on the bulletin board. Finished projects to be shared soon.

We also have our morning assembly performance next Wednesday. We will be performing Brown Bear, Brown Bear. Here Tyz'Juan is working on the red bird mask.

Of course we also had our winter ball. We hung our decorations, enjoyed some dancing, food, and limbo. Thanks goes out to our PTO for making the event happen.

Special Delivery From the North Pole

Miss. Sam brought us a very special delivery today. This package arrived with a note from Santa and our very own elf to watch over us. We are writing letters to the elf to find out more about him. We also will be working hard to do the right thing and treat people right so that Santa will bring us a special surprise. Be sure to ask your child about the elf.

Week of 12/3 - 12/7

Each day we work hard to complete our work in centers. Here we see, Destony and Quion reading a Christmas book in the library and Adriana building words at the word work center.

In science we are studying ocean animals. As part of our unit we made penguins. Ask your child to share an ocean animal fact.

In math we are learning about size and practiced this with our penguins by creating a large body, medium belly, and small head.

We got three new friends in our class this week. This week we welcomed Tanea, Kristina, and Gizabella.

As we were picking up after our craft project  Quion pointed out that we were using our life skill of cooperation to clean up.

In writing, we are practicing descriptive writing. We used three sentences to describe this snowman.

We also had a very special awards ceremony to celebrate the students who have been working hard to get smart. Honor Roll awards were given to Latasha, Angel, and Keilani. Tyz'Juan was given an award for his work in Spanish, Keilani received recognition in Art and Se'Jeida was given an award for her effective effort in Language Arts/Literacy.
