On this page you will find information about our various writing units.
During Marking Period 4 we will be studying plants and non-fiction writing. We researched various plants and then decided which plant to write our own non-fiction book about. Each student thought of three questions the reader might have and then wrote the answers as the content of their book. Each book had a table of contents, diagram, glossary and sources.
During Marking Period 3 we will be doing an author study of Mo Willems. We will think about how we can write like him but also think of ways we can connect to his work. Here are some peaks at their work. Each child wrote about the characters, plot, their favorite part, a text to self connection, and a book recommendation,
Marking Period 2: Descriptive Writing
During Marking Period 2 we studied ocean animals and descriptive writing. We focused on describing ocean animals that we find interesting. We are also went on a trip to the aquarium to enhance our understanding of these animals and improve our descriptions.
Marking Period 1: Narrative Writing
Throughout Marking Period 1 we have been studying narrative writing. Narrative writing is story writing but we focused on writing stories about ourselves. After practicing narrative writing for several weeks we went to the farm so that we would all have an exciting narrative for our final project. We wrote rough drafts and then published our writing of farm narratives.
