Week in Review 6/3 - 6/7

Of course the week involved fun day and you can check out that post separately. Keilani, Tyz'Juan, and Kristina were winners for displaying life skills this week.

We continued to work on identifying coins and their values.

We also played around with shaving cream.

We practiced math problems and word wall words by writing in the shaving cream.

On Thursday there was a dance performance by the dance team including our own Jhanii and Latasha.

We also prepared for graduation throughout the week including making a special keepsake with our hand prints.

Week in Review 5/6 - 5/10

We decorated cups to transplant our marigolds in for Mother's Day. We also worked on cards.

The cups involved painting glue and sticking tissue paper so it was a bit messy but they had fun and were very proud to have a gift.

Mr. Finn and Ms. Heyward came around with the treasure box again. Tanea received a prize for her excellent transitions.

When we got to the library we started off with an educational video about trees but the kids were much more interested in reading than watching TV. If kids are going to beg me to turn the TV off so they can read how can I say no.

I really love our trips to the library because the kids are not just flipping through books but each one is reading. They are learning to find a book that is right for them and when they like a book that is a bit hard they go to a friend or teacher for help so they can read together.

After we were at the library we explored the area looking at all the blossoms that had fallen.

We put some beans in plastic bags with water to explore more about plant growth.

During Playworks Coach Crutch encouraged teamwork with a game of pattern memorizing and a game where partners had to work together to stand up without using their arms.

On Monday Keilani shared about a fun weekend adventure to dinosaur day at the Newark museum.

Week in Review 4/22 - 4/26

We're continuing to plant and grow plants to study. Our marigolds sprouted and we are growing some lima bean seeds.

On Friday we had pajama dress down combined with a reading event.

Each classroom had a different theme and some 8th grade students came to read to the kindergartners. I'm not featuring any photos with the 8th graders as I don't have permission to share their photos but they did a great job.

We also took our first trip to the library across the street.

The librarian explained some rules of the library and then shared some books with us.

We were reading non-fiction books and were able to spot some of the key features of non-fiction that we've been talking about.

During our walk we noticed some dandelions which we had just been reading about. We were also very curious about identifying some of the trees around us.

Week in Review 4/15 - 4/19

This week we began our new unit on plants. I encouraged students to notice and share about their personal experiences with plants. Please allow your child to bring in seeds from fruits or vegetables they are eating if they ask to. They saved apples seeds from lunch already. Also if you see any interesting plants in your neighborhood feel free to send a picture to us by email or text.

Here some students plant Marigolds.

We also had our Mo Willems celebration or Pigeon Party. You can check out the separate post below for more pictures.

We also had our awards ceremony. Many students made honor roll including Jeida, Keilani, Tanea, Tytianna Adriana, Destony, Kaden, Chinua, Tyz'Juan, Jhanii, and Angel. Congrats to everyone!

Kristina won the kindergarten music award and Tyz'Juan won to kindergarten phys ed award.

Here we are watering our plants. We are hoping they will sprout by this coming Friday.
