Week in Review 4/22 - 4/26

We're continuing to plant and grow plants to study. Our marigolds sprouted and we are growing some lima bean seeds.

On Friday we had pajama dress down combined with a reading event.

Each classroom had a different theme and some 8th grade students came to read to the kindergartners. I'm not featuring any photos with the 8th graders as I don't have permission to share their photos but they did a great job.

We also took our first trip to the library across the street.

The librarian explained some rules of the library and then shared some books with us.

We were reading non-fiction books and were able to spot some of the key features of non-fiction that we've been talking about.

During our walk we noticed some dandelions which we had just been reading about. We were also very curious about identifying some of the trees around us.

Week in Review 4/15 - 4/19

This week we began our new unit on plants. I encouraged students to notice and share about their personal experiences with plants. Please allow your child to bring in seeds from fruits or vegetables they are eating if they ask to. They saved apples seeds from lunch already. Also if you see any interesting plants in your neighborhood feel free to send a picture to us by email or text.

Here some students plant Marigolds.

We also had our Mo Willems celebration or Pigeon Party. You can check out the separate post below for more pictures.

We also had our awards ceremony. Many students made honor roll including Jeida, Keilani, Tanea, Tytianna Adriana, Destony, Kaden, Chinua, Tyz'Juan, Jhanii, and Angel. Congrats to everyone!

Kristina won the kindergarten music award and Tyz'Juan won to kindergarten phys ed award.

Here we are watering our plants. We are hoping they will sprout by this coming Friday.

Mo Willems Celebration!

In kindergarten, we spend a lot of our time learning to read so it is super important to make sure that we love to read. This year we studied Mo Willems because his books are simple enough for kindergarteners to read, very easy to connect with and most importantly funny! Today we celebrated all our hard work on our author study with a Mo Willems celebration aka Pigeon Party.

We made a fun pigeon snack inspired by Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus.

We decorated a banner with a variety of Mo Willems characters.

Another pigeon snack.

Keilani poses with her pigeon hat.

We also reread our favorite Mo Willems books. Adriana was fresh from the snack station as you can tell.

We also had a little hot dog snack inspired by The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog.

Here's a group shot.

After all the partying was done we shared our author study with Ms. Carter's class who also studied Mo Willems.

Week in Review 4/8 - 4/12

This week we worked on retelling familiar stories. Here Chinua, Latasha, Kaden, Tytianna, and Quion retell the Three Little Pigs. Below Tyz'Juan, Angel, and ZyQuan are dressed up to play the 3 bears in Goldilocks.

During Playworks we learned about soccer and practicing dribbling and shooting.

We wrapped up our Mo Willems unit by playing with Don't Let the Pigeon Run this App to create our own pigeon stories. Next week we will be celebrating our work with Mo Willems themed publishing party. More details to come this week.

We worked on consonants vs. vowels as we talked about our bonus word an.

In math we continued to practice counting on and comparing quantities.

Week in Review 4/1 - 4/5

We started the week by talking about what we did over break. We were all excited to share the fun we had.

At the end of the day we try to incorporate some review concepts and here Ms. Pitre reviews counting by twos.

On Wednesday we got a chance for a little extra play time.

We work lots of concepts during literacy centers. Above Kaden is working on identifying favorite part in literature.

Chinua and Keilani work on sorting word families.

Kevin turned 6 on Friday. Happy birthday to him and thank you to his family for hosting a little celebration.
