Happy 100th Day!

Ms. Pitre planned some awesome 100th day of school activities for us today. We got to practice recognizing numbers to 100 by finding Hershey Kisses with numbers on them around the room and then matching them to our hundreds chart.

We also thought about what we would want 100 of:
Adriana: Aunts, because they can do my hair and love me.
Kaden: Stage lights, so everyone can look at me.
Kevin: Cousins, so I could have 100 friends.

Then we thought about what we wouldn't want 100 of:
Tytianna: Sharks, because they would bite me.
Kristina: Moms, because I couldn't do all the chores.
Keilani: TVs, because we don't have many rooms for TVs. I just need 3 for the living room.

We made 100th day necklaces and 100th day hats, too!

Below you can see many of us with our cool hats.

Week in Review 1/21 - 1/25

Coach Crutch plays a game to teach cooperation and teamwork during Playworks.

We discussed good citizenship and community service in honor of the National Day of Service on MLK Day.

This week we decided to make valentines to give to children in hospitals as an act of community service.

Also we celebrated Gizabella's 6th birthday and the cupcakes made us all a little messy.

Week in Review 1/14 - 1/18

On Tuesday we had a fun time with Coach Crutch at Playworks but also practiced self control and teamwork in a fun game.

On Wednesday we had our morning assembly performance. We performed Brown Bear Brown Bear complete with masks and other props. We did a great job remembering our parts and speaking clearly.

We have been talking about Martin Luther King Jr all week in anticipation of Martin Luther King Day this coming Monday. Above the kids are drawing their dreams for our dream quilt.

We work on the hundreds chart regularly but this week our math unit focuses on counting by twos and fives so we practiced by hopping the numbers on our hundreds chart.

On Friday, our principal Mr. Finn came to read us Martin's Big Words to help us understand the message of Martin Luther King.

Week in Review 1/7 - 1/11

We had another awesome week in Kindergarten. Of course the most exciting event was the field trip and you can see pictures in the previous post.

We talked about our life skill of respect and you can see Kaden demonstrating respect by sitting in learner's position and Angel by raising his hand.

We were tested for Marking Period 2 words and some new Word Masters were declared. Tanea, Samad, and Jhanii are MP2 Word Masters!

Tytianna, Destony, and Adriana are MP2 Word Masters!

Chinua, Latasha, and Se'Jeida are Word Masters!

We also did an experiment to understand how blubber helps Arctic and Antarctic ocean animals stay warm.

We talked about how whales, seals and walruses have blubber to stay warm. We tried this out by sticking our hand in a 'blubber glove' made from Crisco and Ziploc bags.

Our hands were warm despite the freezing ice water.

We also got to celebrate the boy's basketball team championship in a pep rally.

Aquarium Field Trip

There is an awesome touch a stingray exhibit. It is safe for the children to touch a a variety animals at the aquarium including these stingrays.

Here is the ocean realm featuring loggerhead turtles, hammerhead sharks and a large variety of fish.

We saw some baby turtles who are too small for the ocean realm but will be joining the ocean realm when they are fully grown.

We had a lot of fun in the Kidzone.

Looking at some cool and colorful frogs.

Checking out the coral.

The Kidzone touch tank. Inside there are starfish and rays.

There are also horseshoe crabs that we got to touch.

Here is a blue lobster in yet another touch tank.

A neat lionfish.

Bobby, a friendly aquarium worker, shared lots of facts with us.

Here you can see the starfish's mouth in the center of its body.

We were excited to see clownfish like Nemo.

Another touch tank with starfish, a sea cucumber, and sea anemones.

Checking out the hippo.

The fish eat off the hippo helping to clean the hippo.

Jellyfish

An octopus with super cool tentacles and a big brain.

The shark tunnel featuring sandtiger sharks.

The penguin exhibit was close but they brought one out for us to see.

One last stop at the stingrays before we headed out.

If you want me to email photos featuring your child just let me know and I'll send them to you. More photos to come on the field trip page.
